Dermal Filler:
Dermal fillers are medical cosmetic materials that are injected into the dermis or subcutaneous tissue of the skin to fill depressions, improve wrinkles, shape contours or increase skin volume, thereby achieving a rejuvenating or beautifying effect.
Unlike Botox, the main function of dermal fillers is “filling” rather than “relaxing muscles”, and they are suitable for improving static wrinkles, tissue loss or congenital contour defects.
Common types of dermal fillers Based on the ingredients and durability, dermal fillers are mainly divided into the following categories:
(1) Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers
Features: high safety, reversible (dissolvable by hyaluronidase), natural effect.
Applicable parts: facial wrinkles (nasolabial folds, tear troughs), lips, chin, apple muscles, etc.
Maintenance time: 6 to 18 months (depending on the degree of cross-linking and metabolic rate).
(2) Collagen fillers
Features: improve skin quality and promote self-collagen regeneration, but may cause allergies (skin test required).
Applicable parts: shallow wrinkles, acne scars.
Maintenance time: 3 to 6 months.
(3) Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA, baby face needle)
Features: stimulate collagen regeneration, gradual improvement, suitable for full facial volume enhancement.
Applicable parts: temples, cheeks, nasolabial folds and other volume loss areas.
Duration: 2~3 years.
(4) Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA, microcrystalline porcelain)
Features: Hard texture, suitable for deep shaping, but irreversible.
Applicable parts: Nose bridge, chin, cheekbone shaping.
Duration: 12~18 months.
(5) Polycaprolactone (PCL, girl needle)
Features: Instant filling + long-term collagen stimulation, natural gradient effect.
Applicable parts: Apple muscles, forehead, chin, etc.
Duration: 1~4 years (different models).
Functions of dermal fillers:
